A first for the UK- Interactive digital flume for the social media age

Users of a unique, interactive flume being installed at a Lincoln swimming pool will be able to select their own ride experience and choose to have a photograph taken of their splash landing emailed to them – a first for the UK.

The flume, which is being installed by Van Egdom as part of a £3.6 million refurbishment at NK Centre (soon to be rebranded One NK), is activated by special touchscreen pads with riders choosing what they'd like to see and hear as they make their descent.

Riders of the new flume, named 'I Slide', will be able to set up their photograph from the top and have it emailed to them as a souvenir of their experience. They'll be able to select lighting and sounds, tapping push pad targets as they go. This exciting new technology also allows for additional themes to be added, enabling new rides to be created at times such as Christmas, Easter, or even Halloween.

As previously featured on The Lincolnite, a new interactive toddler splash pool is being installed using the history of the Magna Carta as the inspiration. This bespoke splash zone has been designed by Van Egdom and will be unveiled in the pool hall with the new flume.

The works are part of the fourth and final phase of the renovation program being carried out before the centre re-launches as ONE NK.

Councilor Mrs Marion Brighton OBE, Leader of North Kesteven District Council, said: "Our main aim throughout this program has been to meet the needs of the customer and, through consultation; we have listened to a range of views which have helped to shape this fantastic new centre.

"Young people in particular have helped to influence what is being offered in the new I Slide flume, having an input on its name as well as the themes users can select from when choosing their ride experience.

As a council we remain committed to arts and leisure in the district, ensuring there are places people can go to enable them to lead fit, active and healthy lives."

As part of the current program of the refurbishment, works are also taking place to the changing village and the surround of the swimming pool is being retiled. A new, modern open plan reception area, café and Infolinks are also being put in place."

The redevelopment of the centre has so far seen the opening of a new gym, cycling studio and three multi-use studios, as well as a 3G multi-sports pitch. The council says the name for the I Slide and its themes will be unveiled soon.
